The Arts of Books for ages 3/5 with Joan Shackford
Is there a writer in your child wanting to create? Read and make books, create stories, draw and paint the characters then bind it with techniques that are valuable for a lifetime. Teach your child the lost art of pen in hand!

Up-cycling! Junk Sculpture for ages 3/5 with Joan Shackford
Work with found objects and mixed media to put your imagination in gear with creating sculpture to blow your mind! Working with glues, scissors, papers, paints and fibers to bring a creature or mechanical structure to life. Build the prototype to the robot of your dreams.

Miniature Places with Joan Shackford
For the aspiring architect in the family this construction session suits those that want to design, build, and detail a small dwellings such as a miniature gallery, outdoor park or the latest in contemporary spaces. Build it and they will come.

SATURDAY CREATE your ART/DESIGN School Portfolio
A Workshop for Teens and their family with Deborah Sacks
Choose the right school and get a scholarship! This workshop offers the family and the student a real-world guidance to consider art school. Get the inside track on the schools, scholarships and careers. Learn which colleges are right for you. Deborah is a former middle and high school art teacher who has assisted many with their career path in the arts. Join Deborah with a Fisher gallery lecture introducing you to the tips that assist in getting into the schools of choice!
SATURDAY, January 28, 10:30am - 12:30, TUITION: FREE for the entire family, FVAC membership suggested.

Printmaking with Deborah Sacks
Designed for youth from sixth grade and higher, this new class will focus on the fine art of printmaking. Come and learn the art of printmaking using a variety of techniques, tools, inks, and papers. Gain deeper appreciation through looking at the work of great printmakers of the past and present. Techniques taught will include printing plates made of linoleum and foam as well as collographs, stamps and Monoprints. Come away with a collection of colorful, artistic imagery that will add to your basic understanding of design and composition as you continue to work in other media. Note: Older students are welcome to attend this class.

Pet Lovers Draw with Susan Brereton
Interested in drawing your pet, but never really knew how to get started? Gain a solid foundation and understanding of the basics to drawing animals and capture that special friend for all time! Working from your own photo reference, you'll gain an understanding of how to break down your pet into basic shapes and then transform your drawing into a finish work of art by exploring the use of line, creating volume through shading and establishing a mood and feeling through composition and lighting. Great class for beginners and those more advanced.

Introduction into Fashion Sketching
In this class you will to draw a croquis (fashion figure). Students will also work on fashion face, hands, handbags and shoes. You will learn the basics of drawing fabric and applying different textures, such as, lace, fur, velvet and plaid.

Introduction to Drawing with Pen and Ink with Joan Shackford
Students will be able to select a project that inspires them and represent it in pen and ink. Bring an object, photo or other inspiration to the first class. After a brief discussion/demonstration about options on how to transfer designs onto paper, you will work them in with ink. As we are working, we will talk about ways to apply pen and ink to various projects - field sketching, journaling, botanical and technical illustration and relaxation doodling. The instructor will provide samples and a variety of techniques to help you master this art form.

Portfolio Class for Teens with Deborah Sacks
Objective of this class is for each student to develop a professional portfolio that will be a well-rounded representation of the student's artistic ability. To assess weaknesses and strengths, students should bring prior work to the first class. Drawing assignments will be completed both in and out of class. These will be in various media and subject matter and will be based on direct observation. The portfolio class is also designed to help students with many aspects of the application process and to choose colleges to which they will apply.

Painting and Collage with Dorota Rzepecki
Create multimedia compositions showing multiple views of various objects while gaining an understanding for collage. Paint with acrylics resulting in a variety of textures and developing interest through contrast by including additional collage elements.

Storytelling Through Illustration with Jordan Deschene
Have a recent dream reoccur, or find yourself drifting in thought with how you might convey a thought? Our Summer Artist in residence hosts a session in Studio 6A with focus on aspects of storytelling through imagery. He introduces and demonstrates techniques in painting and exploration in various mediums.
