<em>Photographer’s Eyes</em> is FVAC’s first juried exhibit of three for 2013. Patricia Hickson, Emily Hall Tremaine Curator of Contemporary Art at the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum, Hartford, selects entries that captures the beauty, banality and the everyday; images that make the unseen visible through light, exposure and the photographic frame.  Prizes will be awarded at the opening reception and public is invited to vote through the duration of the exhibit for a People’s Choice Cash Award.</p>

<p>Drezner Visitors’ Gallery &#8211; Artists in Residence<em> </em>Exhibit, <em>Traces</em>.</p>
<p>Two of FVAC’s AIR (Artists in Residents) will be featured in the Drezner Visitors’ Gallery exhibit, <em>Traces</em>. Anita Balkun and Stephanie Lauretano, both area school art teachers, will present works developed during their residences within the FVAC AIR Program, providing studio space in which emerging artists can expand the parameters of their chosen medium, explore new directions in their work and enhance their creative vision, and at the same time advance FVAC’s goal of educating the public through seeing and participating in the hands-on creation of art.</p>

<strong>SUMMER ARTS ADVENTURES</strong></p>
<p>Each summer, the Farmington Valley Arts Center&#8217;s picturesque and inspiring Avon campus becomes a place where young artists unleash their creativity and develop confidence in their abilities to express their ideas. Working with professional teaching artists in a setting where talented studio artists create year-round, kids ages 6 to 15 enjoy a variety of exercises in visual arts, ceramics, sculpture and photography. With themes each week, and sessions run daily from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Kids learn from and inspire each other, too, as they work independently and collaboratively outdoors and inside the FVAC&#8217;s classrooms and galleries.<br />

<strong>The Registration Process</strong><br />
You can register by phone or mail by downloading a registration form. Once your registration is complete, including tuition payment, you can expect a registration packet in the mail soon after throughout the spring.<br />
The registration packet is full of information for Summer Arts Adventures families including schedules, forms, contact information and details about our sessions.<br />
Note that all registrations are first-come first-serve. Our youth classes are limited in size. To insure participation to specific dates of enrollment, please contact FVAC as soon as possible.<br />
The Summer Arts Adventures staff puts a lot of thought into our curriculum to ensure that all Summer Arts Adventures classes are engaging, fun and exciting learning experiences.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>In its second year, the Fisher Gallery hosts an exhibit of youth artwork, <em>Aspiring Young Artist</em>,  April 6 &#8211; 19, 2013.</p>
<p>Students form greater Hartford area schools have the opportunity to submit work for display in a state of the art gallery with an opening reception on April 6, 3-6pm.</p>
<p>Pieces including paintings, drawings, prints, photography, collage, mixed media and sculpture  must be framed or with mechanics/hardware ready to hang and mount for display. Participants may also choose to make their entries available for sale yet not required.</p>

This is an opportunity for a forward-thinking, energetic leader and lover of the arts to continue the stewardship of this nearly 40-year-old local cultural venue, while preparing the FVAC to become a cultural centerpiece of the planned Avon Center development.</p>
<p>Reporting to the Board, the Executive Director will help to shape, implement and enhance the organization’s strategic goals, lead fund raising initiatives, develop program activities, lead the day-to-day administrative and financial functions for the FVAC education programs, galleries and studio artist initiatives, and ensure that staff is in place to meet operational needs.</p>

Demonstrations of basic techniques will be performed along with group and individual guidance of practical application. Safety practices will be discussed and adhered to throughout the workshop.
