May exhibits include the Photographer’s Eyes and Traces by Artists in Residence

Two new exhibits grace the gallery walls May 3 through June 22.

Fisher Gallery – Photographer’s Eyes


Photographer’s Eyes is FVAC’s first juried exhibit of three for 2013. Patricia Hickson, Emily Hall Tremaine Curator of Contemporary Art at the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum, Hartford, selects entries that captures the beauty, banality and the everyday; images that make the unseen visible through light, exposure and the photographic frame.  Prizes will be awarded at the opening reception and public is invited to vote through the duration of the exhibit for a People’s Choice Cash Award.

Drezner Visitors’ Gallery – Artists in Residence Exhibit, Traces.

Two of FVAC’s AIR (Artists in Residents) will be featured in the Drezner Visitors’ Gallery exhibit, Traces. Anita Balkun and Stephanie Lauretano, both area school art teachers, will present works developed during their residences within the FVAC AIR Program, providing studio space in which emerging artists can expand the parameters of their chosen medium, explore new directions in their work and enhance their creative vision, and at the same time advance FVAC’s goal of educating the public through seeing and participating in the hands-on creation of art.

The exhibits can be viewed during gallery hours Wednesday – Friday from Noon – 4pm and Saturday 10am– 4pm, and by appointment.  The Arts Center also invites art teacher’s to bring their students to view these exhibits; call the Arts Center at 860.678.1867 or schedule a tour of the exhibits and our campus of studio spaces


Call for Entries – Photographer’s Eyes

FVAC has a tradition to partner with professionals in the arts industry to jury three exhibits annually in the Fisher Gallery.  Next up – Photographer’s Eyes

Fisher Gallery Exhibit – Aspiring Young Artist

In its second year, the Fisher Gallery hosts an exhibit of youth artwork, Aspiring Young Artist,  April 6 – 19, 2013.

Students form greater Hartford area schools have the opportunity to submit work for display in a state of the art gallery with an opening reception on April 6, 3-6pm.

Pieces including paintings, drawings, prints, photography, collage, mixed media and sculpture  must be framed or with mechanics/hardware ready to hang and mount for display. Participants may also choose to make their entries available for sale yet not required.

Fisher Gallery

FVAC’s Fisher Gallery, named for the organization’s founder, is one of the region’s most beautiful and flexible gallery/event spaces. From February through October, the Fisher Gallery hosts changing exhibitions of top-caliber works. During the holiday season, the Fisher Gallery is transformed into the Farmington Valley’s most unique shopping destination, selling a diverse collection of handcrafted jewelry, glass, ceramics, textiles, woodworks, and wall art created by talented local and regional artists.

Hours: Wednesday-Saturday, noon-4 p.m.


Esther Drezner Visitors’ Gallery

The Farmington Valley Arts Center is also home to the Esther Drezner Visitors’ Gallery, located amongst the on-site artists’ studios. This gallery, named for long-time volunteer, supporter, and board member Esther Drezner, is a year-round retail space featuring inspiring and delightful works by sculptors, painters, jewelers, potters, textile artists and other craftspeople. Each month, the gallery also spotlights a collection of works by a featured artist.

Hours: Wednesday-Saturday, noon-4 p.m.
